Online ATEX consultation
fast, practical expert support
More and more ATEX questions arrive by e-mail: 1–2 short questions, then a few more – while the project is often not yet at the stage where a full Explosion Protection Document or detailed design would start.
I created these online consultation packages so that designers, contractors, operators, maintenance teams, technical managers, HSE professionals, technologists, project engineers and owners can get fast, well-framed ATEX support – without launching a “big project”.
Who is online ATEX support for?
For professionals and companies working in or around hazardous areas who need a fast, focused ATEX answer – not a 300-page theoretical document. It can be based on your existing Explosion Protection Document and zoning, or on new questions that have just emerged.
Packages and pricing
Package prices are simple, rounded amounts. The “Quick ATEX question” package is available at an introductory, discounted price so you can get a professional answer even for smaller questions.
1. Quick ATEX question – e-mail consultation
Typical use cases
- “Should this area be classified as hazardous with this technology?”
- “Is this Ex motor / luminaire / detector suitable for this zone?”
- “Which Ex equipment should we choose here, based on our existing EPD and zoning?”
What is included?
- 1 specific topic (with 2–3 related questions).
- Quick review of your short description, SDS, photos, drawing, EPD excerpt.
- Clear, practical answer by e-mail.
- Typically around 30–45 minutes of engineering work.
Not included:
- Preparation of a full Explosion Protection Document (EPD/RVD).
- Issuing complete zoning documentation and zone drawings.
- Signed expert reports for authorities or legal procedures.
2. 1 day of online ATEX support
When to choose this?
- When ATEX questions pop up throughout the day on a running project.
- When you need to decide between several layouts, drawings or design options.
- When you want an “ATEX back-up engineer” for an intensive project day.
What is included?
- 1 calendar day with up to 2–3 hours of engineering work (review, calculations, e-mail responses).
- E-mail communication during the day.
- Up to 1× 30–60 minutes online meeting (Teams / Zoom / Meet).
- Responses on the same day, during business hours (09:00–17:00, CET).
Often used to provide equipment and protection recommendations based on an existing EPD, for example which luminaires, pushbuttons, cable glands or enclosures are suitable for a given Ex zone.
3. 1 week of online project-preparation support
When is it useful?
- At the start of a new project (e.g. alcohol storage, dusty process, new packaging line).
- When you are still at concept level but need a clear view of the ATEX implications.
What is included?
- 1 week (Monday–Friday) with up to 8 hours of engineering work in total.
- E-mail discussions and review of documents.
- Up to 2× 45 minutes online meetings during the week.
- At the end of the week a short written summary of expected ATEX tasks, required documentation and recommended next steps.
4. Quick review of documents / drawings
Typical cases:
- ATEX screening of already prepared design documentation.
- Quick review of vendor drawings and layouts “with Ex eyes”.
- Interpreting specific parts of an existing EPD, with additional suggestions.
What is included?
- Review of up to 10–15 pages of documentation or 1–2 drawings.
- Track changes / comments with short technical remarks.
- A brief summary e-mail of the main findings.
Often includes concrete equipment recommendations for existing Ex zones (electrical, mechanical and process equipment, enclosures, markings, etc.).
How does the online ATEX consultation work?
What is covered by the online packages – and what is not?
Examples of what is covered
- Short, focused ATEX questions and clarifications.
- Interpretation of your existing Explosion Protection Document and zoning.
- Recommendations for Ex equipment and electrical / mechanical fittings in a given zone (protection concepts, enclosure types, markings, etc.).
- High-level risk screening for planned projects from an ATEX point of view.
- “Second opinion” on existing solutions with fast expert feedback.
- Comments on smaller layouts and sketch designs.
What is not covered
- Preparation of a complete Explosion Protection Document (EPD/RVD).
- Issuing official zoning documentation and zone drawings.
- Full detailed electrical, mechanical or fire protection design.
- Signed expert reports for authorities or legal procedures.
- On-site surveys and physical site visits.
If any of these become necessary during the consultation, I will always provide a separate, project-based proposal for the full scope.
